X:656 T:Old Man Quinn B:Treoir 2001 M:C| L: 1/8 R:Hornpipe N:"Old Man Quinn" and "The Shaskeen" are two South Leitrim tunes taken from the N:collection of Stephen Grier, a piper and native of Abbeylare, Granard, Co. Longford, N:who lived in Bohey, Gorletteragh, Co. Leitrim, where he wrote his collection of more N:than one thousand tunes in 1883. Unfortunately, the collection was never published N:but a copy can be found in the Traditional Music Archive. A three-part setting of N:the same tune appears in O'Neills 1850 collection under the title "Old Man Quinn". N:O'Neill got the tune from the piper, Sergeant James Early, from Aughavas, Co. N:Leitrim. Early learned it from another piper and elderly relative, James Quinn (born N:1805), from Cloone, CO. Leitrim. Hence the title "Old Man Quinn".
