From the 2007 Comhaltas Tour CD (CL66), notes by Siobhán Ní Chonnaráin:
A native of Newtown, near Nenagh in Co. Tipperary Paddy O'Brien's revolutionary style of two-row "box" playing (B/C System) made him an esteemed role-model and marked a milestone in the development of Irish traditional music.
Paddy O'Brien spent much of his life in America where he made many significant recordings (including The Banks of the Shannon with Séamus Connolly) before he returned to live in his native Tipperary.
His wife Eileen (nee Seery) wa the daughter of Seán Seery, one of the founding members of CCÉ. Paddy O'Brien's many compositions became absorbed into the tradition and are played all over the world. Many of these compositions are published in _The Compositions of Paddy O'Brien_, a publication to which his daughter Eileen, herself a very famous fiddler, had a significant input.
