It was in November I well remember
that two noble heroes to Manchester came
And ‘twas their intention, as I now will mention
For to free old Ireland those heroes came
The police they viewed them, to see if they knew them
And to pursue them they did not fail
They were soon surrounded, and in handcuffs bound
And they marched them off to the county jail. When Allen heard how those lads were taken
To O’Brien and Larkin he quickly flew
Saying “for Kelly and Deasey, my heart is uneasy
We have lost our comrades, what shall we do!”
They went together, with one another
And like loyal brothers they did agree
Saying “let every man go up to the van
And burst it open and set them free.”And now kind friends, what followed after
Those boys were taken, as you may see
Both Judge and jury they found them guilty.
For to die as martyrs for their own country.
At eight o’clock on that fatal morning
When the cruel hangman he did appear
The three shook hands and embraced each other
For they knew their hour it was drawing near. When on the scaffold they gazed around them
Not a son of Erin could there be seen
But the cruel Saxons they came in thousands
For to see those martyrs die for the green
Their beds were made in the highest Heavens
Where holy Angels around them stand
St. Patrick blessed them with a crown of glory
Saying “you’re welcome Fenians to our Happy Land.”
