It’s a long time since I bade farewell to friends and comrades all at home
And went across the bounding seas in a strange country for to roam
I left my friends in old Ireland how sad and downcast I did feel
I parted with my own true love and my lovely home in sweet Loch Guile.‘Twas there I spent my youthful days all with contentment and with joy
And o’er its lovely hills and dales I sported a light-hearted boy
No wonder that it grieves me sore when sad misfortunes clouds do steal
I long for parents so dear to me in my lovely home in sweet Loch Guile. And sometimes when I go to sleep each well-known face I think I see,
I think I see old friends again with smiling faces to welcome me
But soon my dream comes to an end my weary wandering throught reveal
That I am in a foreign land far from my home in sweet Loch Guile. There’s one fond thought that fills my mind where e’er I roam by land or sea
And that is to return again my own dear native land to see
For there’s no place in this world so wide could I the same contentment feel
Or spend my time so pleasantly as amongst the girls around sweet Loch Guile.
