- 1,000 open-reel 1/4" audio tapes, largely field recordings, with accompanying labels and notes, held at Cultúrlann na hÉireann. These tapes were collected during the tenure Séamus MacMathúna as the Timre Cheoil (Music Officer) of CCÉ. Many of these recordings were made by Séamus himself, while others were collected and donated to Comhaltas during this timer period.

Very interesting tune, sounds like a Donegal style reel. I'm guessing wasn't that uncommon at that time amongst traditional players in NYC, (many of them played "Glencolumbkille"; DEFINITELY a Donegal tune!) even though most of their repertoire was very much NOT from the North. I'm curious as to how these northern tunes made their way into the hands of otherwise exclusively Sligo-style players...a chance encounter with someone from the north, perhaps? Does anybody know?

two ways...a lot of vistors from all over ireland made it to the redican house in new york. sean mcguire visited when he came to the us in the 50s. I have a great picture. some of the musicians also shared tapes back and forth between the us and ireland.
