N:Paddy O'Brien the accordion maestro and great composer from Portroe, north
N:Tipperary, and the legendary fiddler S\'eamus Connolly from Killaloe formed one of
N:the truly great musical partnerships. They recorded a six track EP for Comhaltas in
N:1973 entitled 'The Banks fo the Shannon' which featured the following two reels on
N:the opening track. To this day these two reels are played together in traditional
N:music circles such was the impact of'The Banks of the Shannon'. Mayor Carter
N:Harrison Jnr was the mayor of Chicago during Francis O'Neill's time there as chief
N:of police and the reel (no. 779 O'Neill's 1001) was named after the mayor's brown
N:fedora hat. Johnny Cronin, like his brother Paddy Cronin, emigrated from his native
N:Gneevguilla, Co. Kerry and this second reel is named after him. A simpler version of
N:this reel, foundn in O'Neill's Waifs and Strays as Kitty O'Neill is associated with
N:Paddy Cronin.
